Jyoti Amge is world's shortest woman

Nagpur's Jyoti Amge has been accredited with the title of World's shortest women by Guinness world record on her 18th birthday. Jyoti stood 62.8 centimeters tall when measured by the Guinness world record which came from London to recognize her as 'Shortest Living Women'.

She took the title from an American Women Bridgette Jordan who stood 69.5 cms. Jyoti was recognized as the shortest living teenager before she turned 18, the eligible age set by the Guinness World Record.

"It is wonderful to celebrate my 18th birthday with a new world record, it's like an added birthday present," Amge, who measures 24.7 inches tall, said Friday as she accepted her certificate while her parents looked on, BBC News reports. "I feel grateful to be this size," she said. "After all, if I weren't small and had not achieved these world records I might never have been able to visit Japan and Europe, and many other wonderful countries," she said.


Amge was formerly crowned the world's shortest teenager, and stands about three inches shorter than Bridgette Jordan, the American woman who held the shortest woman title before her. Amge, who has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, is not expected to grow any more, according to the BBC. "In accordance with our guidelines, Jyoti was measured three times in 24 hours by a doctor," Guinness World Records said of her new title. Amge has dreamed of becoming a Bollywood star and plans to pursue a college degree, the BBC reports.
